The oldest profession in the world
Would you have ever imagined a pimp becoming
famous, parading on national television? What about Dodo la Saumure (translate
Dodo the Brine), then?
Behind
that name that sounds nice, you see a paunchy gray-haired man. The first time I
saw him, I thought he was a singer from some kind of shabby pub. Hiding under
this appearance is a man that sexually exploits women, we should call things as
we see them.
Cover these breasts I shall not see
When it
comes to mentioning the objectifying of women in advertising, or them being
over sexualised, none debates their nudity and the way women and their body are
used.
It doesn’t shock anyone.
Whereas when it is about a protesting political movement that points out men
domination over women, we hear many voices from everywhere. They are acting as
frightening virgins in front of nudity when it stands for a political message.
We hear them ask “since when do women earn their freedom by showing their
breasts?”
Uprising in Rosarno!
At the beginning of last January, after gunshots wounded two seasonal immigrant workers, the event triggered the immigrants' rage which blindly struck the Calabrese population. In turn, this started the “hunt for the black African” and racial uproar immersing us in situations not unlike those in a distant American past.
In Belgium, conviction of Adecco
The discrimination case was first revealed in late 2008 in Pote à Pote which exposed the use by Belgium ADECCO of the BBB codes (Blanc, Bleu, Belge)1 and we had kept you informed of its judicial developments. In June 2009, the day of the trial, the penal procedure was declared “null and void” due to the use of French rather than Flemish by the examining magistrate during the eight year investigation.
Do all paths lead to Toleranz*? (the German word for “tolerance”)
“Any person who studied abroad shall be able to apply for the equivalence of their diplomas in Germany”, the German secretary of Education Annette Schavan announced on Monday, October 18th. “We got to have a welcoming culture” the German secretary of Economy Rainer Bruederle highlighted. But with economic and demographic crises in the background, is this a good news for tolerance and universalism?
